Running Escapes Derbyshire Weekend

Thanks to a lot of hard work and planning, a group of dedicated runners, and a lot of hoping and finger crossing, at the end of June 2021 we were finally able to go ahead with a Running Escapes UK Running Weekend!

Whilst currently unable to set up any concert tours, we have been very lucky to have had the opportunity to proceed with a Running Weekend in the beautiful village of Castleton in Derbyshire. Running Escapes UK is the sister business of Sound Escapes, though as the name will clarify for you, the trips are for different types of experience (and escape!)

Our summer escape was a fun-packed weekend, attended by a excellent group of runners, all with different levels of experience! The weekend began by everybody arriving at the accommodation, having a first meeting with drinks and a sit down meal (included in the package price). It was a lovely, light atmosphere as everybody got prepared for the next day! With an early start on the Saturday morning, we began the experience with a small warm up before our 13km guided trail run of Mam Tor commenced. The village of Castleton is nestled in a valley beneath the spectacular peaks and rugged landscape of High Peak in Derbyshire, so of course this made for an absolutely incredible running experience! All of our runners completed the run – with a mini break for refreshments and a chance to take in the views at the top of Mam Tor – in amazing form and great spirits! After a reward of tea, coffee and cakes, we had some time to explore the village before our optional 5km afternoon guided trail run would begin.

The weekend was rounded off by a relaxed evening in a local pub, with food, drinks and even live music! We were so pleased to have had such a great time for our first Running Weekend of the year, and even more happy to see some brilliant feedback from our runners. ‘Spent the weekend away in the beautiful village of Castleton in the Peak District. I’ve never been on a running weekend before but this certainly set the bar high for the next one I go on. Jo and Kelly were so friendly and welcoming and the hostel we stayed in was the perfect location. Thank you so much for a fantastic weekend’

‘A great run in Castleton last week with Running Escapes UK. Jo, Kelly and Al were fab. I was a little worried about running up Mam Tor as my usual runs are very flat but the group was fantastic, lots of different paces and really good fun’

‘Fantastic running weekend with Running Escapes. So well organised and a lovely welcome from the team. Great to have a guided run so we could just focus on running without worrying about the route. Amazing location in Castleton with incredible views from Mam Tor. Thank you’

‘Had an escape with Kelly, Jo and the team in Castleton. Had a brilliant time, running on terrains I normally wouldn’t run on, with people of all paces and amazing views – it was fantastic! Special shout-out to Al the Guide Runner who kept us entertained, safe and informed!’

Here at Running Escapes we are so incredibly grateful to hear such brilliant feedback, and most importantly, to hear that all our runners felt safe and at ease as apart of our tour. It just makes us at Sound Escapes all the more excited to start planning concert tours again!

We desperately hope that it won’t be long until we can really get the wheels back into motion for our choirs and bands that have had such a difficult time over the last 18 months. It will of course be worth the wait, and with recent news headlines, the date could be in sight. A huge thank you goes out to all those who have continued to support our business and all those within this industry, during such a confusing and hard time.

We hope to see you soon!

In May 2020 we were due to tour the Stirling area in Scotland and due to the current coronavirus pandemic we took the difficult decision to call off the tour. I’d like to give our thanks and praise to Jo and her team for all the planning and preparation she had done to put the itinerary together – she was able to provide us with an excellent range of stunning concert venues, plus some great suggestions for our leisure time, and we look forward to working with her again soon.

You’ve been patient and kind all the way through this, Jo – especially with it being the first international tour I’ve done, and with all the unforeseen changes to the travel arrangements, so thank you to you and the team.

Brilliant tour, expertly organised. Kindness and compassion. Nothing was too much trouble. Colin, our driver, was a complete gem and so knowledgeable about the isle. Lovely hotel staff where nothing was too much trouble

Sound Escapes did a fantastic job on arrangements for our tour . Would thoroughly recommend Jo to any choir looking to travel . All feedback has been positive from everyone who travelled . The extra care at meeting us at the coach and check in to ensure things ran smoothly went above and beyond .

Care and attention to detail of the highest degree. The planning with Jo Porter was detailed and meticulous, with nothing being missed, and although she was not involved in the accommodation arrangements, she nevertheless checked it out and acted as an intermediary.

Fantastic tour in Bonnie Scotland, enjoyed by all who went, singing and non-singing. Brilliant organisation from Jo who really made it all look so easy.

From cathedrals and abbeys, churches and stately homes, all steeped in centuries of history, some in Roman Towns others in quintessential English ‘picture postcard’ villages, every choir and musical ensemble should spend a tour exploring the United Kingdom and Ireland. Whatever part of the country you to choose to visit, by working with a knowledgeable team of people who know the regions inside out from both a tourism and musical perspective, you will be guaranteed the richest of touring experiences
Tim KnightBritish composer and Choral Director
As a Chorister, and eventually Head Chorister in our local church choir for eleven years, Jo was talented, dedicated and could always be relied on to work to the utmost of her undoubted abilities. I would expect that she would apply the same attributes to her professional life
P BuckmasterChoral Director
Jo and her team came up with a fantastic itinerary for our choir and planned everything to the last detail. We always felt we were in safe hands and that they were on the end of a phone to help us with anything we needed. We couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

One of the best tours we have ever undertaken – musically, socially and geographically. Would heartily recommend Sound Escapes to any group considering a tour.
